My work as a developmental editor, educator, and consultant is informed by more than a decade in publishing and literature, including as a juror for the inaugural Pulitzer Prize in Memoir and the 2023 Community of Literary Magazines and Presses Firecracker Award in Nonfiction. I was a contributing editor for Catapult Magazine and a screener for the AWP Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction. In 2021, I read more than 100 creative nonfiction books and in 2022 read more than 200 memoirs. As of spring 2023, I’ve read 25 memoirs and counting. My reading is a huge part of my literary citizenship, and I am committed to getting as comprehensive of an understanding as possible of who is writing, what’s being written, how it’s done, and who is publishing and collaborating with these writers. My current schedule allows me to read two to four books a week, a rhythm that enriches my writing and editing practice and those of emerging and mid-career writers I work with.

My editorial and education work are based on training in creative nonfiction, narrative therapy, socio-emotional learning, and inclusive, actionable learning strategies. I take a minimum of two professional development courses each year, firmly believing that I can only walk you as far as I’ve walked myself… and I want you to go far.
